The first trimester: what nobody tells you

The first trimester is the most invisible chapter of pregnancy. There's no bump to explain the exhaustion, no kicks to celebrate, and yet your body is quietly building an entire human circulatory system. It's a lot.

You may notice a metallic taste, sudden aversions to foods you loved last week, or a wave of sleepiness that hits you at 3pm like a soft brick. All of this is your body doing its work — not a signal that something is wrong.

Our best advice from the moms in our community: lower the bar, and lower it again. Soft clothes. Warm broths. A book you've already read. Permission to cancel plans without guilt.

If you're struggling with nausea, small frequent meals — even just a handful of crackers before you sit up in bed — can make a real difference. And please, tell your care team if you can't keep water down. That's the one thing not to tough out.
